Since 2019 Tanec Praha has been the main organizer of a project focused on dance dramaturgy. The Micro and Macro Dramaturgies in Dance project is based on collaboration with leading dramaturges from around the world, including Guy Cools, Anne-Marije van den Bersselaar, Maja Hriešik and Katalin Trencsényi, and with five partners from four European countries – Anghiari Dance Hub and Marche Teatro (IT), Bora Bora (DK), Dance House Lemesos (CY) and DansBrabant (NL). The project provides selected artists with the opportunity to develop dramaturgical skills in the form of two 10-day workshops a year for selected artistic duos from each country.

The year 2020 was a bit more complicated for all of us. Many activities scheduled for spring 2020 have been moved, cancelled or replaced. However, we were looking for ways to meet. In response, an online Pandemic Dramaturgies symposium was held in Tilburg in October last year, organized by our dance partner from the Netherlands, DansBrabant. Thanks to the special dramaturgy of the symposium, the partners had the opportunity to share their experiences from the time of the pandemic, to inspire each other and, above all, to devote themselves to creative work even in this special period. There's a Dutch saying that "Laughter can heal even horses". Humour and laughter are an undeniable part of our lives, giving us the courage and strength to continue. That is why the organizers invited a Dutch artist to the symposium, who tried to reflect on these things visually…

See how the illustrator Jeroen de Leijer captured the debate about micro and macro dance dramaturgy with his specific view and perspective. We will be sharing more cartoons on our social networks, so follow us!
